Purrfect Cat Cafe, Penang

Apart from our wonderful hotel, I think Noah’s favourite place in Penang was the Purrfect Cat Cafe. He’s quite fond of animals in general, and although we’ve come across quite a few cats in our neighbourhood, he has never actually gotten close enough to touch them. I thought that it would be the perfect opportunity for him to do so at the Purrfect Cat Cafe, as the cats there are definitely more used to being around people, and probably wouldn’t mind receiving a little attention from Noah.

Noah was very excited when we told him that we were going to see some cats, and couldn’t wait to head upstairs to the cat cafe. We had to order a drink each before we could actually go upstairs, and we both chose iced chocolates, as it was a really hot day. The downstairs area is full of cat-related memorabilia for purchase, and I think cat-lovers would have a hard time leaving without buying anything.

Our drinks

The cafe upstairs is divided by glass sliding doors into two sections, and the drinks are usually served in one section, away from the cats, to prevent spillage. However, I do think you can choose to bring your drinks into the area with the cats, if you prefer, as long as you are careful. The cats take turns to be in the playing area, so those which are scheduled for a break are kept in a private section within that area.

Resting

Most of the cats were asleep when we were there in the late morning, but Noah was just thrilled to be around so many of them at the same time. We taught him how to be gentle with the cats, and he was grinning from ear to ear as he interacted with them.

The couple seated there absolutely refused to budge, even though they weren’t even interacting with any of the cats. On hindsight, I should have asked them to move to the other section, since all they wanted to do was to take we-fies (without the cats), play with their phones, and whisper sweet nothings to each other.

My favourite shot!

The Purrfect Cat Cafe is perfect (pardon the pun) for young animal lovers, and was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

After we left the cafe, we came across this quaint little shop selling all kinds of retro items. I was so tempted to buy some things, but exercised great restraint, because they didn’t match our home’s theme.

The retro shop

The lady at the retro shop suggested that we walked a little further down the same street, and crossed the road to the coffeeshop opposite for some wantan mee, and it was the best wantan mee we had on our trip! We ordered an extra bowl of wantans after we had our first bite of them in our noodles, because they were so good.

C didn’t want to go hunting for street art, so this was the only one that I saw

Best wantan mee EVER!

If you do visit the Purrfect Cat Cafe, do stop by this coffeeshop for some wantan mee. I guarantee you won’t regret it!
